Product Overview

This uPVC tilt turn door gives one leaf two separate opening actions. Turn the handle to the horizontal position and the sash swings inward like a casement door for full access; turn it to the vertical position and the sash tilts in at the head, leaving a controlled opening at the top for ventilation while the leaf stays locked at the bottom. That single mechanism is what makes the door usable in a kitchen or living room where a fully open leaf would block the circulation route but a sealed opening would trap cooking moisture and stale air.

The frame and sash are 60 mm and 70 mm multi-chamber uPVC sections welded at the corners, with a 1.5 mm galvanised steel insert running through every chamber. The steel carries the hardware loads and keeps the leaf straight over its service life; the multi-chamber uPVC section provides the thermal break by construction, which is why a uPVC door has no separate polyamide strip to fail. The door is built to project drawings: leaf size, glazing build, hinge side, handle finish and colour are frozen at shop-drawing stage.

Tilt and Turn Operation: One Leaf, Two Actions

The gearbox is a single tilt-and-turn unit driving an espagnolette along the sash. In the turn position the locking points retract fully and the leaf swings on two hinges; in the tilt position the bottom locking points stay engaged while the head releases and a friction stay limits the opening to roughly 100 mm. The friction stay is not decoration: it holds the leaf against a gust so the sash cannot slam back on its hinges, which is the failure mode that breaks tilt hardware on exposed elevations.

Because the leaf opens inward, the drainage plane stays outside the gasket line. Water that passes the outer seal reaches the sloped sill and leaves through the pressure-equalised drainage slots rather than being driven across the rebate, which is what allows the assembly to hold EN 12208 Class 5 to Class 7 at the pressures quoted in the table below.

Thermal and Acoustic Performance

With a 24 mm double glazed unit the assembly lands between 1.7 and 2.1 W/m²K. Moving to Low-E glass, argon fill and a warm-edge spacer takes it to 1.2 - 1.4 W/m²K, and that step matters more on a uPVC door than on a window because the frame fraction is larger relative to the opening. The multi-chamber section keeps the inner face of the frame close to room temperature, so the bottom rail does not run with condensation in winter.

Acoustic performance is Rw 32 - 38 dB on the standard build. The mass difference between 5 mm and laminated glass is what sets the upper figure: a 6.38 mm laminated pane with a 0.38 mm acoustic interlayer interrupts the coincidence dip and takes the door to Rw 40 dB, which is the specification used for hotel guest rooms and apartments facing a road.

Multi-Point Locking, Steel Reinforcement and Security

The espagnolette drives three to five locking points into stainless steel keeps welded into the frame, and the tilt-turn gearbox means the leaf cannot be lifted out of its hinges while the handle is locked. Security comes from the combination rather than from any single part: a welded frame cannot be spread, the galvanised insert stops the profile from being cut and peeled, and the multi-point strip distributes a pry load across the full sash height instead of concentrating it at the handle.

Sealing is a dual EPDM line on the frame and the sash, with welded corners rather than mechanical joints, so there is no path for air at the corner where a screwed frame would leak. All hardware is 304 stainless steel, which is the grade that survives coastal and high-humidity installations.

Finish Options and Project Applications

White uPVC is the standard finish, with woodgrain foil lamination in oak, walnut and anthracite grey available on request. Laminated foils are applied to the profile before welding, so the colour wraps the welded corner rather than stopping short of it.
